Born in West Virginia and raised in Tennessee, Edwin McCoy was immersed in music from an early age. The son of renowned fiddler, banjo player, and multi-instrumentalist Chance McCoy, best known for his work with Old Crow Medicine Show, Edwin grew up surrounded by traditional and roots music. He began playing guitar at age eight, first exploring rock and roll before discovering his love for traditional music.
It wouldn't be until the Summer of 2024 when he was gifted his first Fiddle by John Blisard that his interest in Fiddling would take off. Only one year later he won 1st Place the Vandalia fiddle contest, giving him the title of West Virginia fiddle Champion. It was around that same time that he would start playing in his first bluegrass jams instead of old time.
Several months later at the Galax Fiddler's Convention Jim Lloyd would introduce McCoy to the Tennessee Bluegrass Band. After spending a couple days jamming together, McCoy knew this was the band he wanted to be in, telling Lincoln Hensley, "Send me material to learn so I can be your next Fiddle player."
One year later he got the call to come audition for them. The very next day after his audition, he would join them on the road and start his trial period. Now he has officially joined the band as their new Fiddle player.
"It's a dream come true for me. I get to play with my favorite musicians in the world. You won't be able to find more honest and hardworking folks anywhere. I've got some big shoes to fill and I'm determined to fill them. I'm excited for what the future holds."
